#rockbox log for 2004-01-04

00:00:10DoggerStrath: sorry if I am not being very helpful at the moment, but I've just snarfed the av300 boot rom sector and am analyzing it
00:00:23Strathnice
00:00:44LinusNkurzhaarrocker: you may be right..
00:00:47Strathya, the family is draging me out the door
00:02:00kurzhaarrockerIn fact this 2 dimensional navigation even reduces button clicks necessary to select an entry.

00:11:12kurzhaarrockerThen I have that question about find_next_frame: Did I understand it right, that this parameter "last_header" is optional and can be set to 0?
00:13:02LinusNkurzhaarrocker: yes it can, but then it may find a false header
00:14:26kurzhaarrockerI had a short look into the datasheet: To me it seems that get_last_recorded_header could be used while playing, too. Was there a reason why it has "recorded" in its name?
00:15:03LinusNnot really, it's just that it's only used for recording
00:15:20kurzhaarrockerHm. good.
00:15:26LinusNnever thought of a good use for it when playing
00:15:55kurzhaarrockerWell in conjunction wit find_next_frame there is a good use :)
00:16:19LinusNwhy?
00:16:49kurzhaarrockerIt's about split editor again. I'd like to to make the split cursor snap onto frame boundaries.
00:17:30LinusNusing the mas?
00:18:07kurzhaarrockerNo, using get_last_recorded_header, fed with a last header from the mas to make it more precise.
00:19:12LinusNbut how do you know that the last header in the mas comes from the same stream that you are editing?
00:19:32kurzhaarrockerIn the split editor I am looping around the split point.
00:19:43LinusNok
00:24:09dwihnoLinusN: Nah, but this is just a proof of concept... The icons are of course changeable.
00:24:25dwihnoLinusN: This is work-in-progress and I just wanted feedback :)
00:24:39dwihnoSo that's why it hardly works and you might get ILLINSTR:s ;)
00:25:24kurzhaarrockerdwihno: in the sound settings menu there probably would not be enough space to fit the labels, slider and numbers on one line?
00:26:23LinusNthen the sliders would be ridiculously small
00:30:59kurzhaarrockerWell, if they aren't rastered, maybe 30 pixel width is enough.
00:30:59kurzhaarrocker*shrug*
00:34:43dwihnoindeed, Linus is right

00:40:37kurzhaarrockerLinus: does prerecording reserve the entire mp3 buffer?
00:42:26kurzhaarrockerThe problem is about volume triggered file splitting while recording with prerecording.
00:42:49kurzhaarrockerHm. How can I explain.
00:42:57LinusNyes it uses the entire buffer
00:43:16LinusNit's just as normal recording, it just doesn't save it to disk
00:43:25 Quit cjnr11 ()
00:44:19kurzhaarrockervolume triggered file splitting is a nightmare if you want to define the trigger with a minimum time. We'd have to cut the file somewhere in the past.
00:46:11kurzhaarrockerDo you think it would be possible to tell the mpeg engine to keep the last 2 seconds in the buffer unsaved? I'm thinking in terms of highwater, or something.
00:47:45LinusNor maybe extend the prerecord function a little
00:48:00 Join atrack [0] (jirc@ACBDE41A.ipt.aol.com)
00:48:17kurzhaarrockerWould that help? While volume triggered file splitting we are already recording.

00:49:17atrackHappy New Year all
00:49:29kurzhaarrockerSomething like simulating the user to press the play button while recording - but two seconds ago.
00:49:35kurzhaarrockeratrack happy new yer
00:49:46*kurzhaarrocker lauches another rocket.
00:51:02LinusNkurzhaarrocker: i meant that the prerecord mechanism could be extended for this purpose, i.e the prerecord backtrack mechanism

07:43:45midknight2k3a few bugs in the sound menu, but very nice otherwise
07:45:06midknight2k3ohh for the recording settings icon it could be "REC" at the bottom as is, but instead of the dot have a hammer (like at the "general settings" icon) or maybe a wrench or.. you get the idea

13:42:55[IDC]DragonAh, hi!
13:43:11[IDC]DragonHappy new year!
13:43:50[IDC]DragonAbout the Neo addons:
13:44:06[IDC]DragonI have a build problem since.
13:44:23Bagderoh, with what?
13:44:28[IDC]DragonThe .lds file gets a bit garbled, the last part is repeated.
13:44:55[IDC]Dragonafter a clean build, I have to edit the file manually.
13:45:09Bagderodd
13:45:26[IDC]Dragonhave you done clean rebuilds since?
13:45:27Bagderhow is it garbled? I mean, in what way?
13:45:42[IDC]Dragona part of it is doubled.
13:47:00[IDC]Dragon(and the linker doesn't like that)
13:47:17BagderI can build a clean rebuild
13:48:22[IDC]DragonHmm.
13:48:38[IDC]DragonIt's linkages.lds which is corrupted.
13:48:53[IDC]DragonWhere is the template for that?

17:58:02*kurzhaarrocker searches for a chainsaw to cut his hand off
17:58:15DjCartOOn@-0
17:58:36kurzhaarrockerWhat's your problem?
17:59:05DjCartOOni just recieved an Archis FM recorder I got from e-bay
17:59:53DjCartOOni have tried it with the original archos software and it was kind of working... now I've changed over to rockbox (and flashed).. but there seem to be some problems
18:00
18:00:50kurzhaarrockerWhat problems?
18:00:50DjCartOOni cannot transfer data because it gives me a bluescreen error telling me the device isn't available anymore
18:01:21DjCartOOnif I try to make a scandisk, it tells me a cluster is damaged but cannot repair it, then my pc crashes
18:01:28DjCartOOn<−−- desperate

18:04:05kurzhaarrockerok. Did you have little tiny icons in your task bar when the drive was connected?
18:04:25DjCartOOnyupp.. one that told me the usb disk was attached
18:04:58kurzhaarrockerok that means you have not that extremly old driver installed.
18:05:18kurzhaarrockerErm btw: does the FM recorder have usb2.0?
18:05:47DjCartOOnas far as i know, it should =)
18:06:06DjCartOOni didn't get the booklet with the recorder, it was used
18:07:41kurzhaarrockerAs far as I can see you might have one out of two problems:
18:07:42kurzhaarrocker1.) somehow your data on the recorder is heavily corrupted
18:07:42kurzhaarrocker2.) scandisk is right and the disk itself is faulty
18:07:57kurzhaarrockerIn case 1) a reformat might do.
18:08:56DjCartOOnhow do I reformat that? by simply telling format f:\ in the msdos proompt?
18:09:16kurzhaarrockermaybe you'd even want to fdisk first.
18:09:22kurzhaarrockerjust to make sure.
18:09:40kurzhaarrockerbut format f:\ is the right way, yes.
18:10:05kurzhaarrockerbefore reformatting though make sure your batteries are full
18:10:16DjCartOOnok, one more question: if i format it i'll loose all the data on it, this includdes the system files?
18:10:40kurzhaarrockerThe firmware doesn't use any system files.
18:11:12kurzhaarrockerAll data will be lost.
18:12:01DjCartOOnok.. is it the same if I connect the player to the power cable? I dunno the battery status at the moment
18:13:07kurzhaarrockerThe power cable doesn't really help here. While the unit is accessing the disk it draws more power than the power cable provides.
18:14:10kurzhaarrockerDoes the recorder still work with rockbox / original firmware?
18:14:21DjCartOOnok, once I formatted it the corrupted cluster should be marked automatically, right?
18:14:53kurzhaarrockerIf it is really is a physically corrputed cluster - yes.
18:15:19DjCartOOnyes but something funny happens.. like "ghost mp3s" coming out of nowhere.. like an mp3 that plays well on my hd becomes a totlayy different one on the player.. like there are some hidden files that swith with mine
18:17:03kurzhaarrockerHave you ever unplugged your drive without clicking on those tiny icons in the status bar?
18:17:22kurzhaarrockerstatus bar = task bar
18:17:31DjCartOOnhmmmm... may have happened once because my system crashed
18:18:44kurzhaarrockerWindows may delay writing to the disk. If you unplug before it has written everything the state of your drive is undefined or worse if you accidently unplug _while_ it is writing...
18:19:32kurzhaarrockerAt least that is the most frequent reason for faulty data on the jukebox drives
18:19:32DjCartOOnwell it usually gives me a bluescreen error at the end of the transfers, even if I didn't touch anything
18:20:03kurzhaarrockerOnce the data on the drive is corrupt anything can happen.
18:21:40DjCartOOn=) got it. Well i'll charge the batteries and then I'll try to format =)
18:21:59DjCartOOnthanks shorthairrocker =)

18:23:59DjCartOOnis half from florence, half from berlin
18:24:55DjCartOOnwhat does it mean if you see the usb icon on the rockbox but you don't have the tiny disk icon?
18:25:28kurzhaarrockerThat means that the drivers on your computer aren't installed properly
18:25:40kurzhaarrockerTry to un- and reinstall in that case.
