02:31:15Captain_Americawas it ever fixed for the 5g?
02:31:40scorcheread that page and you will find out...
02:32:36Captain_Americawhat is wrong with you dude seriously? if you know it is a yes or no answer so why do you have to be a dick about it
02:33:35scorcheCaptain_America: i dont see a need to answer that when i linked you to the page that says it if you read it....i am trying to show you where to go, so next time, you dont have to come to us and be able to do it yourself
02:34:20Captain_Americabut it is alot harder to type read that page and youlll find out then yes or no
02:34:29Captain_America3 letters max

02:36:38Captain_Americahow hard would that be
02:36:55Genre9mp3Captain_America:I don't think that it will be hard to read the page as well
02:37:46Captain_Americacorrect but if he knows the answer it is easier for him to type 3 letters and me to read them than him to ridicule me and have me read it
02:38:03scorchebecause a) i am busy....b) i took the time to tell you the link, and tell you about it so you can find it for future use and so you wont have the need to have to rely on someone else for something that you should be able to do yourself
02:38:12scorcheand c) i dont have an ipod =P
02:38:31scorchein fact, you ahve to read the page anyway to find the correct version to use
02:38:52Captain_Americaok so you dont have the time to type 3 letters
02:38:54Captain_America..
02:39:05Captain_Americabut you have the time to type all that and read for yourself
02:39:13Captain_Americayou dont have a very good arguement
02:39:44scorcheno i dont, but i have the time to tell you this so that in the future, i will save myself time by not having to go through this again and have you be able to do it yourself =)

05:12:10Paul_The_NerdWe're working on 3.0, which does not include iPods, at the moment
05:12:24Paul_The_NerdBut it's been delayed by some rather large unforseen complications. It's getting close though, I think.

05:15:03Paul_The_NerdVaco_Animus: So, you're talking about unofficial builds. Seeing as those aren't BY Rockbox, you're going to have to depend on whatever their authors have done to make them findable.
05:15:09Harryso is the ipods build halted currently
05:15:31Paul_The_NerdUntil the feature freeze ends, the only fixes iPods are likely to get are those that affect all targets.

09:52:44LinusNpetur: what's the status of the enhanced recording stuff?
09:52:58LinusNcan it record from the fm screen?
09:53:14peturno idea, don't use it
09:53:46LinusNthe fm radio or the enhanced recording?
09:53:58peturdo we want to start recording from the fm screen or jump to recording from there
09:54:11LinusNthe archos records in that screen
09:54:19peturI don't use the REP
09:55:20peturI don't see directly how to merge fm and recording on screen
09:55:38peturdoes it need gain setting, peakmeters,...
09:55:54LinusNthe radio screen has peak meters iirc
09:55:59peturhad
09:56:05LinusNah, yes
09:57:33peturthe problem is, putting rec stuff (peakmeters,..) in there will require runnning the cpu faster (now at 11MHz iirc)
09:57:41peturrunning even
09:57:43LinusNyes of course
09:57:59LinusNit has to leave the idle mode
09:58:12peturwhich is a pitty
09:58:20peturif you don't need recording
09:58:26LinusNnah, only if you enable prerecording
09:58:57peturso no peakmeters until you start recording
09:59:02LinusNah, yes
09:59:28peturmaybe it needs some key to enable recording mode
09:59:38LinusNi was thinking, isn't the level from the fm tuner fixed?

10:06:17LinusNlarger fonts would be nice
10:06:26LinusNbut it opens a can of worms...
10:07:18peturI think it works ok but I fear compatibility across players
10:07:25LinusNme too
10:07:34peturmost stuff is h1x0 oriented

10:43:38amiconnLinusN: I have some ideas regarding recording and radio
10:43:51LinusNshoot
10:44:07peturwatch for the numbers ;)
10:44:12amiconnImho radio recording should work from within the fm screen
10:44:31LinusNimho too
10:44:43amiconnWe could set a fixed recording or allow level adjustment for experts (or even agc)
10:45:16amiconnBut my main idea is that recording mode shouldn't be active always while the recording screen is shown (like it is right now on archos)
10:45:39LinusNyou mean the fm screen?
10:45:45amiconnOf course it is necessary to run recording mode when prerecording is active,
10:46:22peturso how do we enable recording mode? a menu?
10:46:24 Join Genre9mp3 [0] (n=yngwiejo@dsl-88-218-17-158.customers.vivodi.gr)
10:46:40amiconnbut without it, we can leave the hardware in playback mode and peak meters disabled (and on newer targets, cpu at idle frequency) until the user actually starts recording
10:47:25*petur points to some talk about it earlier
10:47:26LinusNthe problem is how to adjust the level before recording, but i guess that's the "expert" mode then?
10:47:40amiconnThis implies a short delay until recording actually starts, but saves quite some battery time (also on archos!) while keeping the possibility of simple recording from fm screen
10:48:08amiconnOn Ondio, the MAS power requirements in recording mode are significant
10:48:14LinusNtrue
10:48:34amiconnI have some more ideas for power saving on archos
10:48:53amiconnWhile not playing anything (neither music nor voice) we should power off the dsp core
10:49:12amiconnThis could also be done during fm playback
10:49:31amiconnIt would even allow voice in the fm screen on archos (as long as we don't record)
10:53:46amiconnI think the best way to achieve this would be an extended mas driver

19:54:34uwe2Hi! What do you think of the following idea: I usually have rockbox set to "resume playback after power on", but as my iPod turns on if I disconnect from USB, it happened that I forgot to turn it off. So it played until the batteries were empty. :-( I added a "useraway" timeout which switches the unit off after a sepecified time after the last user interaction. After startup, it is 60 seconds only and after the first key press it is o
19:54:34uwe2of course only works if I adjust the volume or browse the directories after startup (which I usually do), so that the unit doesn't shutdown after one minute if the power on was no mistake.
19:56:18 Join hardeep [0] (n=hardeeps@c-71-202-85-199.hsd1.ca.comcast.net)
19:57:20uwe2This concept handles three situations: (1) Forgetting to switch unit off after USB disconnect. (2) Switching unit on after one presses a button by mistake when the unit is in its case and carrying around the unit. (3) Forgotten to set the sleep timer, listening to music before sleeping.
19:57:54oboI don't see how it would work for #3
19:59:01uwe2It would switch off after one hour and not play back until the batteries are empty (I usually listen to a long list of audiobooks, long enough to make the batteries empty).
20:00
20:00:03uwe2So generally one would set a timeout useraway_timeout_startup and one useraway_timeout, which can both be 0 of course to switch it off.
20:00:30linuxstbuwe2: I think your first paragraph got cut short - it ends with "after the first key press it is". So what happens after the first keypress?
20:03:28uwe2Nice. :) Opera cut my message into two and transmit other strings as it shows to me. I see the first which ends with "...after the first key press it is one hour. This" and the second I think you already read ("of course...").
20:05:11uwe2And why does it show uwe2 to you? That was Opera's default name, but I changed it to "breaker" and it also tells me that I am now "breaker"?!

20:44:34linuxstbVaco_Animus: That's in the main part of the Apple firmware which you can hack using ipodwizard - nothing to do with Rockbox (and a different USB screen to the one Rockbox reboots into).

21:12:21breakerAnother question: Why is rockbox more battery consuming than apple os? Is it only because the CPU is mostly in full speed (75 MHz) becauso of non optimized decoding? I cannot believe that apple has optimized the decoder so good that they can run them mostly at 30 MHz?!
21:16:36breakerWhy is the max Frequency 75 MHz in rockbox? http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_iPod says it's 80 MHz. Is this wrong or rockbox setting the wrong max frequency?

21:30:39breakerif you use no equalizer, I'd say we boost it at least 50% of the time. If you set 5 bands of the eq, the cpu is not fast enough for playing usual 128 kbps mp3s. I therefore set my EQ to use only the first and last band, change the lowest band higher (200 Hz) and the highest band lower (10000 Hz) so that I have a "bass/treble" function and then the cpu is fast enough. But it is boosted I think > 90% of the time then.

21:34:44breakerearHertz: So why don't we use 80 MHz? We would have less skips (in the case the cpu is just fast enough to decode it) and it wouldn't consume more battery, because the CPU would be less time in that fast mode. Or am I wrong here?
21:36:08earHertzbreaker: that I don't know. I suspect it's because either (or both) apple use and ipodlinux use 75.
21:36:49sharpebreaker: the cpu doesn't stay at a constant speed while decoding audio (normally), it boosts when it needs to.
21:36:53breakerI tested it: without EQ, my iPod 5G is 2,5 sec in 30 MHz and 4 sec in 70 MHz with a 256 kbps mp3 file (CBR). So 62% high speed.
21:37:56breakersharpe: Yes, I know. But my theory is that it wouldn't consume more power and we have a little bit less skips.

21:38:56sharpei can safely say, i've never experienced any skips while playing any kind of mp3.
21:39:47sharpewith the exception as to when i'm doing something that is prone to audio skipping.
21:40:22breakerHm, but then again I remember that running a CPU in double the speed it consumes 4 times more power, isn't there this dependency? Can we set the CPU also to a third setting? (30 / 55 / 80), depending on additional buffer thresholds?
21:40:50breakersharpe: You didn't turn on the EQ, did you? ;-)

21:45:32linuxstbConsidering there are no hardware specs, I'm sure there is a lot of hardware power management we're not doing optimally.

23:22:26Paul_The_NerdNo, the ATA bridge they use apparently can't see bast 128gigs, so it'll overwrite files on a drive larger than that, or something.
23:22:40 Part webguest10
23:22:52Bagderright, nothing to do with usb 2.0
23:22:53Paul_The_Nerdgopp: As I said earlier in this very conversations, the iPods only go up to 60gigs, because they only make drives their size up to 60 gigs so far. Well 80 now.
23:22:54goppoh that logical
23:23:24goppoh but one day will see a 120 gig, with proper techonlogy for it support
23:23:34goppwill we, I guess we will I am a simpelton when it comes to this
23:23:35goppsorry
23:24:04Paul_The_NerdBagder: Is the wiki up or not? If I go to a specific page it's there, if I click the Wiki link on rockbox.org I get access forbidden.
23:24:18BagderLinusN is working on it
23:24:19LinusNthat's intentional
23:24:21Paul_The_NerdOkay
23:24:41goppthanks Paul_The_Nerd
23:24:45Paul_The_Nerdgopp: The smaller you make the disk, the less maximum space it has, because it's physically smaller.
23:25:03Paul_The_NerdSo, by definition, smaller players will always have less space than bigger ones *can* have, if they're made right.
