01:37:31drf|laptopSo guys. I just bought a refurbished Sansa Fuze... and just opened it, and it's firmware version 2. Does that mean it's the same as a stock v2?
01:37:49drf|laptopI dunno if they mix and match hardware when refurbishing or what, as I've heard stories about people getting v1s from the refurbs etc
01:38:46mc2739drf|laptop: if the firmware version starts with 2 then it is a v2 and Rockbox will not run on it
01:39:31drf|laptop:(
01:39:39drf|laptopThat's now the fourth Fuze I got that was v2
01:40:00drf|laptopso v1s cannot be "updated" to v2 firmware?
01:40:28mc2739no, they have different hardware
01:40:50drf|laptopyeah but I mean, if I were to get a v1... and run Sansa Updater... it would still start with a 1?
01:41:13mc2739yes
01:41:34drf|laptopweird
01:41:53drf|laptopI had read that a good majority of reburbished ones were the v1 hardware and this one isn't
01:43:26soapThe v2 has been out long enough now that I actually would expect few v1s to remain in the refurb chain.
01:43:45drf|laptopwell, the reviews I read were only about a month old
01:43:59drf|laptopis there any physical reason Rockbox can't run on v2s, or have the developers just not figured it out yet?
01:44:06drf|laptopas I know the e200v2 used to not work and now it more or less does?
01:44:20soapthey have different hardware.
01:44:25drf|laptopI realize that
01:44:35drf|laptopbut is that hardware locked in such a way that Rockbox physically be installed to it?
01:44:42drf|laptopor have they just not ported it yet
01:45:00mc2739work cannot really be started on it until a firmware update is released
01:45:23drf|laptopoh, so you guys use the official firmware files to port Rockbox?
01:45:38drf|laptopwait, wait... I swear I had a firmware file from it
01:45:38drf|laptopthe /v2
01:45:49drf|laptopit was that BIN file the v1s have, only it wasn't on a v1 :
01:45:51drf|laptop*:P
01:46:16soapThey are not _needed_, but it is hard to blindly figure out how to get firmware "accepted" buy the hardware without watching how the official system does it, sometimes.

01:46:42 Quit Oxymis_ (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
01:46:56drf|laptopwell, does it need to be an *update*, or would just the firmware files be enough?
01:54:23mc2739it does not need to be an update in all cases, but with the new Sansas, we need the update.
01:55:33drf|laptopwhat do you guys do with the update?
01:55:42 Quit kaniini (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
01:56:32mc2739it is used to install the Rockbox bootloader
01:56:46drf|laptopusing their updater you mean?
01:57:19mc2739no, not the updater, but the update file
01:57:33drf|laptopthe update file is different than just the bin file on the device?
01:57:45mc2739correct
01:58:09drf|laptophm
01:58:33drf|laptopIs that really the only difference between v1 and v2 is the firmware? I know the hardware is different but what effect does that have on Rockbox itsoelf?
01:58:54gevaertsnot much. Only that it doesn't work
01:59:13mc2739parts of Rockbox need to be rewritten for the different hardware
01:59:39drf|laptophm
01:59:46drf|laptopbut the main thing you guys are waiting for is a firmware update?
02:00
02:00:19Unhelpfuldrf|laptop: clearly if you know the hardware is different, then you know that the firmware is not "the only difference"

02:00:35gevaerts"we" are not waiting for anything. You'd have to ask the people who are actually interested on working on it
02:00:59mc2739the initial work has been started, but without the update, there is no way to load the code onto the device
02:01:10drf|laptopwell I'm debating whether to just keep this v2 and wait or if it's not gonna work anytime soon and I should keep looking for v1s
02:01:18drf|laptophm
02:02:06mc2739you may have to wait a long time - the is no guarantee that Rockbox will ever run on the Fuze v2
02:02:19drf|laptop:(
02:02:38drf|laptopI'm just annoyed at how hard those v1s are to find... I bought an e200 after those had been out for a couple years and it worked fine (refurbished)

05:11:51arbingordonhello, I figured someone here might be able to answer this question: I have a Gigabeat S, and sometimes when copying files to it it copies fast (~10MB/s) and sometime it copies slowly (500KB/s), is there any reason for this happening?
05:14:35Unhelpfularbingordon: hard to say, but gigiabeat s doesn't do any frequency scaling under rockbox, and rockbox presents a USB MSC device, so the OS is responsible for all filesystem work, and RB only handles block-level access. could be maybe you're sometimes using bootloader USB mode and sometimes using USB mode after rockbox has booted? i don't know that that would make a difference but it might, especially if your bootloader and rockbox are of
05:14:35Unhelpful different versions...
05:15:16arbingordonwhich would be the faster one, and how would I force that to be the way to connect?
05:16:44Unhelpfularbingordon: if they're of different versions, i can't possibly say which would be faster. if you plug in after rockbox starts you get RB USB mode. if you plug in USB with the device off, or early enough while it's starting up, you'll get bootloader USB
05:17:06Unhelpfuli would highly recommend you avoid transferring files in bootloader USB mode as the bootloader doesn't support charging. :)

11:45:36stripwaxunhelpful - Do you know why the monkey audio codec needs so many udivs? could the codec be changed to not require divs?
11:47:21Unhelpfulstripwax: per amiconn the range coder needs 3 divs/sample. there are a number of ways to do divisions faster if the divisor is constant, but i don't think that applies here.
11:48:29stripwaxUnhelpful - do you understand how the range coder works? (I confess I don't but I only took a few minutes looking). Wondering if maybe a different algo achieves the same without divs.
11:48:42Unhelpfuli think i might try writing a goldschmidt divider from scratch for arm11... that would need more iterations and have no fewer multiplies per iteration *but* the multiplies in each iteration are independent of each other
11:49:23Unhelpfulstripwax: essentially the packed, entropy-coded data is represented as one really huge fractional value (*really* huge, as in all of it together)
11:49:57stripwaxugh

11:55:15Unhelpfuldivision by a constant can be done with multiplication by a reciprocal and a bit of fixup. *if* you can get away with not having to recalculate the reciprocals very often...

18:23:43*gevaerts is confused
18:23:53pamaurywhy ?
18:24:51gevaertsSome targets give expected errors, like missing usb_init_device() for non-software-usb targets, but some have things like 'LANG_COLOR_RGB_LABELS’ undeclared
18:25:13pamaurythat's strange
18:25:34gevaertsanyway, some also compile
18:26:22pamauryOk, I'm leaving for a few moment, I'll be back soon. I'm sure there will be plenty of little things to fix anyway.

18:53:23pamaurygevaerts: thanks, I'll have a look at it later
18:55:45pamaurygevaerts: it's strange that on some targets there are undefined references to, say, usb_enable while it's usb-drv.c

19:12:40kugelthese __s32 etc types are a bit strange
19:13:08pamaurythere are part of the driver, this is the "user" interface to the driver, I can't say more. These are kernel types I guess

19:59:44pamaurygevaerts: what should I do on target that only have hardware usb ? Should I make it use the usbstack or just stub usb functions ?
19:59:47 Part fenugrec ("Leaving")
20:00
20:00:20gevaertspamaury: hardware usb is different enough to not simulate it with the same code I think
20:00:27pamauryI agree.
20:00:32gevaertsso I wouldn't use your code on those
20:00:45pamauryThat's also simpler for me
20:04:16pamauryWhat does cpu_idle_mode does ? Can I safely stub this on simulator ?
20:04:36Tornetells the cpu it's okay to clock to the lowest rate because there's nothing happening
20:04:44Torneradio uses it, and hwusb uses it
20:04:53Torne(note: lowest rate, not actually idle)
20:05:02pamauryOk so it's safe to stub on simulator
20:05:26gevaertsyou could call the equivalent underlying linux syscalls :)
20:05:30Torneyup, on anything that doesn't have adjustable frequency
20:06:17pamauryI define it as a empty #define so it's less than a stub actually.
20:07:43pamauryThere are funny thing in the firmware:
20:07:46pamauryint storage_soft_reset(void);
20:07:53pamauryvs
20:07:53pamaury#define storage_soft_reset() (void)0
20:08:08pamauryOne returns int, other returns void
20:13:22soapduring make BMP2RB is tossing an Error 1 on a bmp file I had modified in the gimp. I saved it as a 16 bit bitmap 565 assignment. Is that the problem?
20:17:51*pamaury : USB driver compiles under gigabeatfxsim !
20:19:17pamauryIsn't there a makefile build target just to regenerate lang files ? That's a pain to recompile everything just because a few LANG_* appeared/disappeared ?

20:37:40domonokyyes. that true for both of this tool. the "normal" voice user uses a tts engine :-)
20:38:51pamauryUp, does someone know a way to regenerate language related files without recompile everything ? More precisely, a way to regenrate lang.h, lang_core.c and lang_core.o ?
20:38:53bjorn__understood. my target user is 80 years old and i'm thinking will prefer a real human voice :_
20:40:48domonokybjorn__: of course a human voice is much better to understand. But its soo much work to create all those clips for all files and folders. Also at least under windows there exist pretty good sapi voices.
20:41:21pamauryI have no knowledge of WPS but there is a problem when it's built under simulator with logf because of this screen_access.h:29 which have this condition:

20:41:31pamauryWhereras gui/wps.c has this condition:

22:31:20AlexPThe estimated time remaining is wrong
22:31:33vji see may be a bug
22:32:28bertrikif remaining time has not been calibrated for a specific target, it defaults to a very low value current consumption estimate
22:32:55bertrikresulting in an unreasonably high remaining time
22:32:59AlexPIt isn't a bug as such
22:33:05AlexPIt just isn't finished
22:33:51vjso r u Alexander Papst :)
22:34:29domonokynikko: hm, dont know what todo then, i also cant build you a new one, we have to wait fro bluebrother to fix this. But doing the manual way should also work. (rbutil just uses ipodpatcher code to install the bootloader).
22:34:51saratogawhen i added that to run time estimation i was trying to get it to default to infinity, but that caused divide by zeros
22:35:09saratogaso i compromised on "unreasonably high" as a clue that it wasn't calibrated

22:54:24Unhelpfulsaratoga: what does "infinity" mean in an integer representation? you'd need to guard your divid with a zero test and use (1<<32)-1 instead of doing the division, i suppose

23:33:52Unhelpfulfunman: i get "4 1B906" and "4 1F906" over and over and then "ATA error: -4"... but this time i have something different, it overwrote some of the 4 xxxxx with "0x260032 0x5f5a83d3 0xbefbcfff 0x9280401b"
23:34:22Unhelpfulthose last four values don't repeat and it seems to have stopped doing anything, but is not shutting down as after the ATA error
23:37:07Unhelpfulit seems to switch between these two behaviors on startup with no particular pattern, maybe there's a timing thing that makes the difference?
23:40:15saratogaUnhelpful: i tried twice and got this both times: http://pastebin.com/m1ec99a46

23:55:14pamauryDo anyone here thinks it's overkill to modify more than seven files just to fix a warning ?
