00:19:22linuxstbAlthough possibly its size is variable... (user theme?)
00:19:27pixelmawell, I don't know if the system status bar is always the same size

01:41:37[Saint]Torne: fwiw, party mode is one of the settings that just randomly goes beserk for some users after updating from 3.5~3.7/.1
01:41:49[Saint]so "you must have turned it on" is not entirely true.
01:42:03Tornei don't see how that can happen
01:42:09Tornethe setting definition hasn't changed
01:42:11[Saint]Nor I, but, it does.
01:42:24[Saint]this would be the 5~6th time I've seen it.
01:42:37[Saint]it's best to advise to backup/reset the cfg
01:42:40Quazgaa:o
01:42:54Tornei still think it more likely that 5-6 peopleahve done it by accident, tbh
01:43:15Tornethe cfg parsing code is really quite simple ;)
01:43:24[Saint]We managed to track down that it was part mode the first or second time I saw it by trial and error.
01:43:54[Saint]I believe there was a playmode setting for another user also.
01:44:31Tornewell, we don't make any attempt to cleanly handle settings whose definitions have changed.
01:44:33[Saint]ZFor some reason, very old .cfgs seem to have a chance of randomly completely messing unrelated settings up.
01:44:37[Saint]it's quite fun.
01:44:47Torneif the value in the cfg is no longer a valid value for the setting it goes back to the default
01:44:54Torneor possibly to something else, if the type has changed
01:45:05[Saint]*-Z
01:45:22Torneand if the name of the setting has changed then obviously the old cfg line will be thrown away entirely and the new one will be on the default
01:45:41Tornebut party mode is just a boolean :)
01:46:55[Saint]The way it was confirmed the time I saw it initially was by the user rolling back to the old build with the same cfg, and all was well, updated again, settings went screwy.
01:47:14[Saint]Sometimes I try not to understand *how* things do what they do ;)

06:03:17RaptorsCan I go back to my Sansa Fuze default firmware after installing Roxbox?
06:03:25[Saint]yes
06:03:37RaptorsIs it hard?
06:03:49[Saint]Rockbox Dual-Boots, so, no.
06:03:56[Saint]My advice is to read the manual.

06:05:53Raptors Video.mpg, .mpeg, .mpv, .m2v
06:06:14Raptorshmm.. Why doesn't it have AVI support like the normal firmware? :/
06:06:34[Saint]Because it's not the normal firmware? ;)
06:07:04RaptorsI suppose. I guess I'll give it a go
06:07:18RaptorsDoes Roxbox have around the same battery life?
06:07:27RaptorsRockbox*
06:07:29[Saint]Better on most devices.
06:08:29RaptorsDRM capability.
06:08:29RaptorsIt is possible that installation of the bootloader may lead to you permanently losing the ability to playback files with DRM.
06:08:30RaptorsD:
06:09:37[Saint]I can never understand why people care about that one...
06:10:00[Saint]That should be counted as a *good* thing.
06:10:28RaptorsHow does losing the ability to playback files with DRM a good thing?
06:10:43Raptorsit's limiting the amount of content you can play on it
06:10:49[Saint]because DRM is awful.
06:11:04RaptorsDRM is awful but sometimes you can't do anything about it
06:11:12[Saint]and DRM limits the content you can play way more than the removal of it.
06:11:41RaptorsIt's not like you can't play DRM files...
06:11:47RaptorsI mean non-DRM files
06:14:40 Nick Strife1989 is now known as L-Strife89 (~Strife89@168.16.236.65)
06:14:58RaptorsI don't get it though
06:15:29[Saint]What part don't you get?
06:15:48RaptorsHow does the installation of the bootloader remove your ability to play DRM content permanently?
06:16:29RaptorsIsn't DRM pretty much all software?
06:16:42[Saint]theere may be some magic written to the firmware partition that siganls to the player "yes, I can play this file, I'm allowed to", and the installation may overwrite that information.
06:16:49[Saint]and no, it is not.
06:18:03Raptorshmm...
06:19:16RaptorsWell I don't really use drm files anyways so I guess I'll take the gamble
06:19:22Raptorspretty much nothing to lose
06:19:55[Saint]You could, in theory make a complete backup of the firmware partition if you didn't want to lose this data, or wanted to restore it if it was indeed lost...but it involves opening the player, and a lot of fiddling that's usually past how far the "usual user" is willing to go.
06:20:55RaptorsYa, I don't know how to do that. If I open up my player I'd most likely end up bricking it
06:20:57Raptorslol
06:20:59[Saint]And most people don't see it as a problem, considering wanting to install Rockbox in the first place there's a good chance this user isn't using DRM'd files.
06:22:41RaptorsJust out of curiosity what are the odds of that happening?
06:23:55[Saint]I'm not sure, to be honest...for there to be a specific note about it in the manual it must have happened, or have the chance of happening...but I'm not sure if there's any data that could give any odds.
06:24:15[Saint]If you're not using any DRM'd files, then...it's no biggie.
