09:00:39JdGordonyes, I know
09:00:46JdGordonI need a hand with the wrappers
09:01:00JdGordonwhich is why i split it out of the other task, can you help out if oyu have time please?
09:01:22kugelthe other task is the filescanner thing?
09:01:28JdGordonyes
09:02:00kugelI don't have time currently unfortantely (exams)
09:02:16JdGordonok, well if/when you do
09:02:29JdGordonmy time is pretty limited also and the scanner is more interesting for me :)
09:03:45kugelbut from looking at gerrit I see two problems: 1) saving the path for FILE_REMOVED is heavy on RAM. 2) doesnt handle files being edited/added/removed during usb so users of the events can't rely on the events and still need the traditional measures too
09:04:35JdGordon1) can be mitigated by using buflib. and I hadnt thought about 2)
09:04:43 Join Buschel [0] (~chatzilla@84.163.145.239)
09:05:08JdGordonits obviously not perfect, but it's a nice thing to add if it can be done
09:05:36kugelto me it seems superflous if the old mechanism need to be kept
09:06:26JdGordonnot completly
09:06:55kugelI don't know if you can even handle USB, given the exclusive storage access by the host
09:07:06JdGordonyou can't. msc sucks
09:07:19JdGordonbut maybe we'll get mtp one day :p
09:09:04JdGordonappart from the filename saving, there is very little code added to make this work, so even if it isnt 100%, it is stil useful
09:09:35 Quit bertrik (Read error: Operation timed out)
09:11:15kugelIMO it's not useful if users of the events need to maintain 2 monitors instead of 1 (because the old one is still necessary). but I guess it depends on the user, e.g. your example in playback.c works fine even without usb
09:11:32kugel(since there can't be playback during usb)
09:11:35JdGordonkugel: the 2 obvious use cases are 1: removing a file thats in the playlist - which means MSC cant be running.. which this solves
09:11:57JdGordonand 2: aauto updating the database more cleverly.. but that requires a filescan after msc *anyway* so ignore it
09:12:39kugelthe scan is the old monitor I'm talking about. if USB could be handled the scan wouldn't be needed
09:13:12JdGordonsure, but unless we use MTP that cant possibly happen
09:13:18kugelright
09:13:30JdGordonthis isnt to replace that, its in addition to it
09:13:56kugeli see that, just saying the usefulness is limited (unfortunately)
09:14:03kugelbut it's probably still useful

09:42:20wodzkugel: Could you look at g#286? Would it be possible to get rid of plugin buff and allocate it on the fly using buflib?
09:43:53wodzMaybe we should hold relocation entries instead of discarding it so buflib move callback could fix relocations once again. Or can we mark such allocation non movable?
09:44:16JdGordonthe plugin buf absolutly cant be movable
09:44:21JdGordonerr, once a plugin is loaded
09:44:28wodzit can
09:45:08wodzyou simply need to discard caches and fix relocations according to new addresses

11:42:23kugelwodz (logs): I highly doubt moving a running plugin in mem is feasable
11:42:36kugelyou'd need to fixup return addresses on the stack
11:43:14gevaertsIt would be an interesting experiment, but I also have my doubts
11:43:26kugelI'd prefer to see the relocatable plugins land in master without buflib at first
11:43:40*gevaerts nods
11:49:29gevaertsIt's not just return addresses. You also have to fix *every* pointer. I'm sure having a move callback is possible in some simple plugins, but I don't think anyone wants to even start on doing that for things like doom or chessbox
11:52:25kugelwe finally need a solution to resize the audio buffer without playback interruption
11:52:58kugeluntil then I'm a bit hesitant to make extensive use of buflib
11:54:55gevaertsYes, that's kind of important
