02:33:22thaicares_So how would I go about getting rockbox on an unsupported device?
02:33:34Tornehttp://www.rockbox.org/wiki/NewPort
02:33:54Tornetake it apart, work out how it works, write the code
02:33:55Torne:)
02:34:43thaicares_couldn
02:35:35thaicares_couldn't I just try a version on similar hardware? that is what I was originally thinking but I don't know how to determine if the device is similar...
02:35:54Tornethere is almost certainly nothing similar
02:36:16Torneat least, not similar enough to boot
02:36:32Tornedevices often use a lot of the same peripherals/etc, but even if htey are basde on the same exact chip everything will be connected differentl
02:36:43Torneit's not like a pc; the software has to know everything about that unique hardware
02:38:23thaicares_gotcha haven't worked with this at all so... yayh
02:38:53thaicares_is there any other open/free firmware solutions that I might be able to check out?
02:39:09Tornenot really, no
02:39:21Tornewhat is the device?

At first it was Great playing the Vids but then it got buggy, the Audio to Video tracking, one ends up lagging and it's starting to bum me out. Any advice on the Best Tips, Tricks, and Software to translate AVI and M4A to MPEG-I? That and where to find a Manual for it cause I've had it installed for awhile and I'm still finding new things.

11:06:30pamauryhas anyone think about a target dependent mechanism to interrupt rockbox and backtrace ? This would be very useful when rockbox is stuck. You can interrupt on any irq, check for a key combination for example.
11:11:41wodzyou could register systick function to do that
11:12:28wodzbut if the system is stuck it may not hit this. It would need to be combined with watchdog imo

22:26:08pamauryAlexP: what are the targets where the usb issue has been seen ? what do they have in common ?
22:26:24AlexPI don't know anything more than the bug report says
22:33:45pamaurysansa c250 mini2g and ipodvideo all use the arc driver, that's definitely a common factor.
22:34:25AlexPHow many others use it?
22:34:31sakaxipod nano 2g also has an usb issue
22:34:37AlexPsakax: We know
22:34:41pamauryand they are all pp based
22:34:42AlexPBut it isn't this
22:34:53pamauryAlexP: e200, fuzep, just to name a few
22:35:06AlexPpamaury: hmmm, quite a few
22:35:17AlexPI'll dig out my e200 and have a play
22:35:18pamauryusb works reliably on my fuze+, so I think it could be arc + pp related
22:35:37AlexPAre there any pp but not arc?
22:36:29linuxstbAlexP: I don't think so - the USB stuff is physically part of the PP chip (IIUC)
22:36:37AlexPlinuxstb: thanks
22:36:50bluebrotherhow about beast?
22:38:04bluebrotherI can also try on mr100, e200, sa9200 and h10_5gb

22:40:52bluebrotherlist of players using the arc driver?
22:40:59pamauryyes
22:41:22pamauryunfortunately I don't have any pp+arc player anymore
22:42:58bluebrothercrash on sa9200
22:43:11AlexPany idea what settings?
22:44:51pamaurythat's impressive, most players of this list are pp based
22:44:57funmanAlexP: I think we can't enable USB reboot on AMSv2 because it causes lot of problems
22:45:10funmanI'm trying to find the details right now and will answer your mail
22:45:54bluebrotherAlexP: no, but I can copy config.cfg off of the device :)
22:46:16bluebrothercrap, most devices want to get charged first :(

22:47:58funmanAlexP: 322fdaa31638dfb977c01591c7ba043adff685f6
22:48:28pamaurythe most recent change to the arc driver is git-svn-id: svn://svn.rockbox.org/rockbox/trunk@30811 a1c6a512-1295-4272-9138-f99709370657 it's about a second usb_drv_init needed with some devices. It's was suspicious at the time but it's quite old so I think we would have known before if it was broken, except if this bug is old too
22:48:49AlexPfunman: OK, ta
22:49:26pamauryhmm, it's only ipod video though

22:51:00bluebrothermaybe some ugly memory corruption issue?
22:51:08wodzI recall some themes used to to affect usb as well
22:51:13bluebrotherbtw, did anyone bisect the nano2g issue sometime in the past?

22:58:02sakax<bluebrother> why on earth does every player need to use its own connector? :( > EU is working on this I guess
22:58:41sakaxisnt Europe creating some kind of law to forbid modified USB cables like apple is usings
22:58:45sakaxsame applies for charges
22:58:49sakaxchargers*
22:58:55sakaxabout time
22:58:58AlexPI can't see how they can
22:59:11AlexPThey've got most people to use micro USB for charging
22:59:23AlexPBut it is impractical to force a certain connector
22:59:40sakaxthey won't force a certain connector
22:59:55sakaxif microusb, microusb will be fine
23:00
23:00:14bluebrotherI can see reasons for using some kind of dock connector
23:00:24AlexPI don't understand what you are saying then
23:00:26sakaxbut not like apple is doing by using usb and modifying it to some kind of apple USD cable
23:00:33bluebrotherbut the weirdest thing is the sa9200 and e200 using the same connector ... with different pinning!
23:00:39AlexPsakax: Are they?
23:00:44sakaxyes
23:00:49AlexPThey just have their connector include the USB pins
23:00:58bluebrotherApple uses their dock connector since ages
23:00:58AlexPHow else would they have it connect to usb?
23:01:18bluebrotherand that connector holds other stuff as well. Like Firewire (on the older Ipods), Line out etc
23:02:21sakaxwell im not a tech guy but what is the ipod cable doing besides serving charging and usb data transfer purposes?
23:02:34AlexPline out, firewire, ...
23:02:36bluebrotherfirewire
23:02:38bluebrotherline out
23:02:47AlexPthere are loads of things on the dock connector

23:03:37AlexPlinuxstb: Was there not some form of digital audio?
23:04:01*bluebrother can't remember some digital out on Ipods
23:04:11sakaxok - but they should be forced to have a general usb charging option
23:04:11linuxstbI don't think so, no.
23:04:12AlexPmaybe not then :)
23:04:32AlexPI still can't get this e200 to crash
23:04:47scorche|shsome control-y bits were on the connector too
23:04:51pamauryI have noticed something very recently: when leaving usb mode I get an error message about rockbox being unable to open the playlist control file, it happens between disconnection and usb screen disappearing; could that be related ?
23:05:29scorche|shi think there were some video out stuff too on later ipods
23:05:31*linuxstb tries to end speculation - http://ipl.derpapst.eu/wiki/Dock_Connector
