15:06:34pamauryLorenzo92: see pm
15:06:44pamauryas you will see, it's quite a mess, you will need to change many things to make this work
15:07:04pamauryhere are a few thought on what you should absolutely change
15:07:33pamaury- VERY IMPORTANT: fix sdram address (or put everything in iram if it fits). On stmp36xx, I think sdram is at 0x60000000
15:08:02 Quit mortalis (Quit: Leaving)
15:08:34pamaury- VERY IMPORTANT: fix sb file generation, based on the updater.sb of the yp-z5, you should init the sdram first (see the -sdram switch of elftosb1) and run any "small stub" that the updater load before the main code, if any
15:08:50pamaury- VERY IMPORTANT: fix registers (again)
15:10:21pamaury- in main, comment everything and check step by step that it works, currently it initialises a lot of things for the imx233
15:10:37pamaury- pay special attention to the clock registers
15:10:45 Quit [Saint] (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
15:10:53pamaury- the lcdif architecture is different (use apbh/x dma instead of dedicated dma)
15:12:06pamaury- I advise you to remove all the #ifdef code which, as you can see, handles many devices (fuze+, zen x-fi 2/3, mwz, insignia)
15:13:04pamauryIf you just want to test backlight, copy the code from this to hwemul (and fix/check pwm first)
15:13:21pamauryyou might need to do some reverse engineering to find out how backlight works on the yp-z5
15:14:15Lorenzo92Yes i will have a look at bootloader....
15:14:56pamauryby the way, I completely forgot to tell you something about usb recovery mode, a useful hack
15:18:00pamaurywhen the hardware boots in recovery mode, it initialises usb and (on imx233), it has two endpoints: one bulk and one interrupt. What hwemul does is that it disconnect usb, init everything again and connect. But nothing prevents you from staying connecting and (beware hack) use the already initialised endpoints. This is much simpler than having a complete USB stack and reduces the probably of doing something wrong at the beginning
15:18:26pamauryI will send you another tool which does that (and many other things)
15:18:49pamauryit's very similar to hwemul (in fact you could call it its predecessor in a way)
15:19:31Lorenzo92Great! Indeed I've seen similarities also with UART that for some reason is already initialized!
15:20:29pamauryone feature that recovery_util (see pm) has over hwemul is that the running code already handles things like i2c, sd/mmc, otp, pinctl. It's much higher level if you can fix it for stmp36xx

17:21:18pamauryI have a question regarding the usb analyzer (Packet Master MQP480). Because I'm tired of using the crazy software, I've begun some work to reverse engineer its protocol. Now the question is: (where) should I document my findings ? I know it's a bit off-topic but would the rockbox wiki be a place for this ?
17:22:39gevaertshm
17:22:56gevaertsSounds reasonable, at least to get started
17:23:05*gevaerts asks for Zagor's opinion
17:23:24kugelis there anything you don't reverse engineer? :)
17:24:01 Quit zaphee (Quit: Leaving.)
17:24:53pamaurynot really :) OTOH what's the use of a 1,000€ analyzer if the software doesn't allow you to use correctly ?
17:25:22gevaertsIrrelevant! We only paid 600€ :)
17:25:33pamauryand that's part of my devil plan to rule the world by writing a super cool usb analyzer software
17:26:10Zagorpamaury, gevaerts: I agree the wiki is a good place
17:26:33Zagorunless you want to start a separate project on github or some such place
17:26:54pamaurycurrently not
17:28:02pamauryactually a nifty plan would be to reverse engineer it, poke the mqp developpers and let them correct the mistakes (they say they don't have the time to document it but perhaps they can have a look ^^)
17:28:55funmanperhaps they would give you the source code if you sign a NDA ?
17:29:52pamauryI suggest it but they said no (no time)
17:30:16pamauryoh and "no customer asked to run our analyzer on linux" :-(
17:31:58pamaurythey should have accepted, now their (poorly designed) protocol will be made public

17:34:02funmanmaybe ask again after you complained about it in public, in case it changes their mind
17:34:47pamaurysure, I just want to reverse it a bit more, the tricky part will be about all the corner cases
17:37:14pamauryat least they answer emails, that's already something !
