#rockbox log for 2013-03-19

00:00:09lebelliumamayer: did you have the opportunity to look at the theme website issue?
00:01:32amayeri did not... and i didnt write down the error lines... i thought i copied it somewhere but i guess not.
00:02:16amayeri should have some time tonight to look at it
00:02:19lebelliumhum... ok I'll upload my theme for e200 in the next days, so new chance for you to write them down :D
00:02:39amayeri have 1 theme for 2 devices that i am also working on... it is amazing
00:03:12gevaerts00:45 <lebellium> get dozens of "Notice: Undefined index: extension in /home/themes/private/themesite.class.php on line xxx" again while uploading a theme

00:54:07[Saint]gevaerts: I suspect ikeboy is treating the idea similar to that of a desktop computer, etc.
00:54:52[Saint]It is probably quite hard to convince a new, non-tech-savvy user that these things don't really make a great deal of difference.
00:57:37[Saint]The other option is that he is aware of how it functions, and wanted to know what target had the fastest CPU and most RAM so that he could get the most runtime possible.

15:07:10pamauryI'm lacking good projects for students. I agreed not to do new ports in GSoC. I would love to have USB audio but that's not enough for a project (or maybe USB audio+mtp but that would require a great knowledge of usb).
15:07:19pamaury*s/I/We
15:08:58kugelwhy would USB audio not be enough for GSoC?
15:09:23kugelit would clearly be enough
15:09:40pamauryI already wrote most of the code. It's not synced with current code and would need to fixing, but the core (usb) is already there I feel
15:10:15pamauryBut if people feel confident it is enough, I can mentor it
15:10:42pamauryI don't quite realise how much work it is to understand usb + usb audio + rockbox audio system, honestly
15:10:44kugelI think we have 2-3 projects that would be interesting
15:11:32kugeldon't underestimate the "a whole new codebase and community to work with" aspect, which takes a lot of time as well
15:12:05pamauryyeah you're right
15:12:52pamauryanyway, if that's not enough, the student can work on usb mtp after this or do cool things with usb audio like radio over audio !
15:14:40pamauryand actually there is a potential big job in usb audio: implement usb isochronous transfers, I've done it for usb arc in a branch, even though I feel it needs to be redone
15:15:23kugelsee, that's more than enough :)

15:16:48kugelwe also have work to do in the playback engine separation or native android ui areas
15:17:13pamauryyep, I don't know those areas though, we need mentors for them
15:17:36kugelI could mentor if it doesn't take too much time
15:17:41*pamaury would also like an intelligent monkey to help him port rockbox to the following targets: zen, zen x-fi, zen x-fi style, zen v, zen v plus, sansa express, yp-q2, finish zen xfi2, shine zen xfi3, and also yp-q1/t10/s3/p2
15:17:51kugelmy master thesis is mostly a half-time job
15:19:39kugelI think our lack of mentors is a larger problem than lack of project proposals
15:22:02pamauryWe probably should focus on only a few projects, like 2 or 3, with motivated mentors and good proposal ?

15:45:38ikeboyWould it be possible to boot rockbox off the micro sd card on sansa targets?
15:46:05ikeboyLike have a button to press in the bootloader?
15:50:43ikeboyI don't know if it's been reported , but my sansa fuze plus will delete most of the files when booting into the OF and if I could keep "Everything" on a card I could just remove it when booting the OF
15:51:07copperuh?
15:51:18Torneare you sure you aren't just connecting in MTP mode?
15:54:00ikeboyNo , it's not connected to a computer , I press the volume down button to boot into the OF but when I boot rockbox my settings get erased and most of the files
15:54:47ikeboyI think the sansa firmware keeps a cache of files and deletes the ones that it doesnt know were copied on
15:54:57pamauryikeboy: that sounds strange, I'm the dev of the fuze+ and I never suffered from this problem

15:56:49pamauryto answer your question though: yes it is possible to boot from the micro sd card but the code for it is not in the trunk and there are a few technical issues in doing this anyway.
15:57:27pamauryikeboy: did you check your filesystem for errors ? maybe that's an explaination
15:58:02pamauryor an option in the OF ? but I don't seem to recall any such option
16:00
16:01:00ikeboyI recovered the files with recuva from piriform.com and I think I got all of them
16:02:24ikeboyI had this problem also before I installed rockbox ( it would delete any files on the micro sd card
16:03:47pamauryDid you try to ask on sansa's forum ? That sounds paradoxal but I don't know much about the OF, I never use it and it is likely most here are in a similar situation. I think people are not afarid of mentionning rockbox in the sansa's forum anyway.
16:05:50ikeboyCan you give details on the micro sd card boot ? I probably have to modify the bootloader code which I'm afraid to do because rockbox warns it might brick the player
16:09:10pamaurythe problem is not really the bootloader: it's "easy" to modify it to do so. The problem is rockbox itself: if you boot from sd, it will look for the files on the internal storage ! You would need to patch rockbox to look for card on the sd card. We have a setting for this (in theory) but I never tested it with the fuze+ and that would require a custom build

18:03:49Tornegitsu-sa: is this a SDXC card by any change?
18:03:53Torneer, chance
18:04:25Tornerockbox needs the card to be FAT32 formatted, and for the partition type field in the partition table to be one of the standard FAT partition types
18:04:34Torneif it was an exFAT-formatted card then the partition type will be wrong
18:06:04saratogascorche|sh: i think if we can get a couple people willing to mentor we should do it

21:07:37gelraenI see something like unix timestamps in .scrobbler.log, but I haven't seen any timezone settings. How does rockbox produces those timestamps from user-configured time&date?

21:46:32esragoriaHi all, I'm having some issues reinstalling the original firmware on a sansa clip zip after a rockbox install. I followed the directions on the sansa site as well as on the rockbox wiki to just drag the .bin file to the root directory but when I eject the device, it shows the rockbox screen and a "file not found" error. the screen then goes black and says "plug usb cable" I tried power cycling as well as reformatting and trying the
21:46:32esragoriasteps and nothing seems to help. I can get back to the original rockbox instal with the rockbox utility. As far as my system goes I'm using a macbook pro running OSX 10.6.8. Help would be appreciated

22:49:55lebelliumhum thank you. But the list is a bit confusing about what is exactly displayed when using %fc. For example with this file "Advanced Audio Coding (AAC-HE) in M4A container" it displays AAC-HE with %fc but what would be displayed with "Atari 8bit mpd format"?
