Ok, I'm sorry. It seems you (both) misunderstood me. My question was not how to go about to update the firmware on the pc. I'm not compleatly retarded (don't want to start a flame war here, but that's really how you're treating me). Justin, for example I did write "firmware(installer)" for a reason. Which you compleatly disregarded in your first scentence.

The question I wanted to have an answer to is that if it is like I suspect, that you actually NEED an firmwareinstaller on mac. Since afik Archos never released an firmwareinstaller where you just could choose a firmware file (.ajz which just was a renamed archos.mod) on mac, like they did for PC, but always with the firmware intergrated in the firmware installation program. I don't know if this is due to some limitation in the MacOS or not. That's why I a9sked. M9ight seem like a stra9nge que9stion since FAT32 is standard an all that, but never underestimate the power of stupidity. And since MacOS is supposed to be "userfriendly" it wouldn't surprise me at all if they made it extra hard for user to have any control over hidden files etc (ceartanly seems that way anyhow).

I never asked for a special macfirmware. But mentioned that IF this indeed is the case that you need an installer to convienently install the firmware on mac, then it might also be a good point to consider for the development side of rockbox (And I hope, Justin, that something like that might be of interest for the rockbox development team if there, again "If", is some issue with mac about this).

I already know about the mentioned forums, the archos egroup got out of hand several monhts ago as far as I'm concerned with way to many messages to keep track of. But I have, as I mentioned from the beginning also access to PC (only windows boxes but still). So the problem was more presented as a thought that might have to be adressed by the rockbox project, IF there is people who have the same problem as me. Since there's no software from Archos that you can use in the same way for Mac as there is for PC. For me personally it's really a nonissue, I won't really be upgrading the firmware that often (not more than 5 times a week).

I hope I made myself clear without any misunderstandings like I obviously wrote in my last mail. It would be nice if someone who knows about mac or in turn know someone with experience with mac answerd. I'm obviously not one of those with the mac experience so I'm truly sorry if I'm making a hen out of a feather here.

Thanks.
/Magnus

Er... the firmware is the same no matter which platform you are using. There
is no mac-version, or pc-version, it's archos firmware, not mac firmware or
pc firmware. If they have some silly installer program, they probably
haven't updated it because no-one needs it (unless they're stuck with a
platform they're unable to use, as in your case, which is presumably rare
:-) - the firmware doesn't need any installation, it's just one file that
needs to be moved or copied to the archos. A one-click automatic installer
program would be not be much more simple than doing it manually (In normal
circumstance :-) so I can't see updates of such a (normally) useless thing
being a high priority.

But the point of this email: if you want help, you're asking in the wrong
place. You'll get a lot more help from places like the following forums,
which are basically designed for questions like yours. This mailing list is
about developing an alternative firmware to the archos firmware, and tends
to stay focused on this.
