Even their latest firmware release (1.27d I think) still does it. It seems
highly unlikely that it is a hardware bug.

I just use RockBox exclusively now - there is no functionality in the stock
firmware I need that RockBox hasen't got already. And RockBox is adding
functionality almost every day!
