Subject: multiple line strings in lang files?
From: Uwe Freese (mail_at_uwe-freese.de)
Date: 2002-10-06

Hello,

As told on IRC, there is a problem with only one (german) translation for some
words that are used both on the F1 menu and F2 screen.

On F1 menu, there is space enough, whereas on F2 and F3 screens, the
words must be short. Additionally there are two lines for the term.

In german, for example, the best translation for Shuffe would be

Zufallswiedergabe (in main menu)

Zufalls- (In F2 screen)
wiederg.

There's no space enough for Zufallswiedergabe in the F2 screen and also
Zufallsmodus is one word in german so that it should be connected with a
"-" when it's going into two lines. And "Zufalls-" or "Zufalls" makes no
sense alone when it's in the F1 main menu.

Suggestion:

1. Two translations for shuffle here.

2. Multiline-words in the lang files for these cases where there's space
for more than one line instead of two word entries.

LANG_F2_SHUFFLE_2LINES
eng: "Shuffle|mode"
new: "Zufalls-|wiederg."

LANG_MENU_SHUFFLE
eng: "Shuffle"
new: "Zufallswiedergabe"

Bye, Uwe.
