Subject: How can we manage performance problems?

We currently have serious performance problems when playing back mp3
at bitrates >= 256 kBit/s. Drop-outs and even complete stop of
playback can occur.
The trouble seems to be while loading / bitswapping data when many
lines are scrolling in wps and / or peak meter is enabled. Is there a
way to determine wether loading / bitswapping is taking place so that
we can disable scrolling and maybe even the peak meter meanwhile? Must
we drop round-robin scheduling and have multithreading with
priorities?
