        I believe that left is output from the Archos, right is input to the
        Archos, but I'm not sure. It's easily tested. Most receivers tend to
        have only optical SP/DIF input, but some have both. My Sony receiver
        has one RCA coax and three optical inputs; connecting the left RCA
        plug from the SP/DIF on the Archos to the coax input on the receiver
        works fine.

        There are also devices you can get at your local electronics store
        that convert from digital in to coax out, and from coax in to digital
        out for SP/DIF signals.
