I've noticed that even on mains power, when on USB, I do not appear to charge
battteries, and this is so either booted cold from Archos s/w or Rockbox.
(AJB).

It may be I misunderstand how the sequencing of plugging in mains, USB,
booting interact, but the symptoms are:

1) unit gets bloody hot

2) while USB is in use, battery charge indicator suggests its charging

3) when you unplug, you find you are on 50% or worse battery life.
