Not that I like taking things to the extreme (but), this is exactly
how/why code that is broken/wrong manages to stay alive.

Personally I'd rather just respond to each email/bug report that we get
that states we have this bug, a canned response stating why the problem
isn't ours.

If they are taking the time to notify us, they should take the time to
notify the company that build the originating software wrong.

But Im an idealist,

I agree, in principle. However refusing to support bad paths will just land us repeated bug reports and support headaches. "It works with the Archos firmware so it must be a bug in Rockbox".

It's just a dozen lines of code or so. We might aswell add it.
