We use plain 8bit characters in Rockbox. If you want the 128 upper ones look
in whatever funny way you want, you make them look as you want. That's how we
support the iso8859-X versions already.

You should also have a corresponding language file of course, using the
correct letters.

Why not? You have 256 letters available to mock around with as much as you
like. Rockbox does not limit what the font looks like.
