Subject: FAQ 69

FAQ 69

I believe that FAQ 69 could be confusing to some people when it says that
dynamic microphones don't need an amplifier. True they don't need
amplification when plugged into a device with a "mic" jack, because these
devices amplify the signal input to that jack. The Archos sadly has no such
circuit. :(
The Archos stereo mic comes with a battery powered amplifier for just this
reason.

We might want to point out that not all Electret condenser mics will result
in good quality. As pointed out, these microphones are used in mobile
phones, PC headsets etc. and many mics designed for these applications are
purposely limited in freqency response to help eliminate noise. Check the
specifications before you buy.
