Don't you think that (configurable) "Global Keys" F1 F2 F3 and ON
as described in http://www.ghettohardware.com/rockbox/
would be nice?

That way if you pressed F1 at any time you'd be sure
[up]/[down] would always increase/decrease the volume, etc.
