Of course it didn't. You shut it down.

The current CVS version attempts to keep the file intact so that it
always contains all recorded data up to the last time the disk spun up.

However, if you shut it down when the file is being updated, you might
still be out of luck. There is no way (on the ordinary Recorder) to
delay the shutdown when the OFF key is pressed.
