Am I right in assuming that this is impossible?

(The mic's only connection seems to be to the MAS; the only way we can
get the mic's sound level from the MAS is to read the peak level meters,
these are only updated during recording, and the recording and playback
`applications' in the MAS can't run simultaneously.)

If so, so much for the adjust-playback-volume-to-cater-for-ambient-
sound-levels idea. Oh well. :(
