I've written a patch to remove, from the directory listing, some arbitarry prefix -- such as a track number -- from the DISPLAYED filename.
For example, given a file name
The patch allows specifying the charcter class (alpha, numeric, alphanumeric, punctuation, space) of the character to break on, and whether to display starting from the breaking character or the next character. In the example above, the breaking character class would be space, and the display would start after the first space.
The patch is complete excpet for the code to save the setting; when that's added I'll submit the patch.
Using this patch, you can name the file with a leading track number, for sorting purposes, and never have to see that track number displayed. Will this achieve what you want?
