Hello,
we're starting to work on the possibility to bring Rockbox
into the Flash
ROM of the jukebox. Imagine booting in maybe 3
seconds!
Don't tell me it's dangerous. The box has a boot ROM, it
seems to contain a
little monitor communicating over RS232. We may be able to
use this to inject
code to program the box even if the flash is completely
garbled. All this is
to be analyzed yet.
There are units with flash chips that could be programmed
in-system, while
others can't (like mine, grr!).
I made some test code to find out, by reading the flash IDs.
Since the
20030518 daily build this code is in. Please test yours, in
the menu go to "Debug
(Keep Out!)" -> "View HW info". If the
Flash entry lists hex bytes for
manufacturer and device, you're lucky. If it gives only
question marks, it failed
to bring the flash into command mode, meaning either the
chip would need a
12.5V programming voltage (like my SST37VF020) or you have
some exotic flash my
code is not prepared for.
The lucky guys are most likely to find "Flash: M=BF
D=D6", which means
SST39VF020. I would be very interested in other
values.
If you did the test, please post here or email me regardless
of the result,
I'd like to get some meaningful statistics.
Thanks,
Jörg
