You may have misunderstood. This playlist has nearly 11000
entries (i.e., one for every MP3 on the box, neatly catagorized
by Artist) so that I can have 3 weeks of un-interruptable,
non-repeating music.

And on resume, the playlist is re-read, which is why it takes
an extra 3 seconds to start playing. I'm not worried about this.
