This isn't directly related to Rockbox but since several people have FMRs I
thought I'd report it.

I woke up yesterday to an FMR that would not boot. I had forgotten to plug in
the charging cord the night before and figured the battery had run completely
down.

The symptoms were that it would start to boot and then quit, just like when
one doesn't hold the ON button long enough. Holding the ON button would
simply cause a loop. Plugging in the charging cord caused a continuous loop
of boot attempt and shut off, repeat ad infinitum. Holding the OFF button
with the charging cord plugged in simply short cycled the loop when the
hardware reset happened but otherwise no change.

The solution was to pop off the battery cover, breaking the battery circuit.
I let the thing sit for 5 minutes to make sure all RAM was cleared, then
buttoned the unit back up. It booted immediately. Apparently something in
the battery backed RAM was crufted up.

Anyway, that's the solution to this problem. While here I might add that the
FRM I received on my Best Buys replacement warranty a week or so ago is
significantly different and better than the one I originally bought about 6
months ago. More firm and crisp buttons, tighter jacks and generally a better
feel. I do not have to hold the ON button to boot. A simple press does the
trick. Definitely a much better product.
