There's nothing dangerously "unsafe" about the charging, worst case you
won't get full batteries. If it doesn't work for you (not even with F1 would be
very exotic), you can still revert to the original flash content.
So if you are comfortable with the general idea of flashing rockbox, why
don't you just give it a try?
