P.S. I agree with what John said about mics. Check the JBR level meters
before you buy anything. (But in order to do that, you'll have to go hear
another loud band?)

Since you have permission from the band, a board patch might be a
possibility, as long as you arrive with the right patch cables. (Ideally it
might help to show up for the sound check, for a band you want to record; I
don't know if that's practical or not.)

I think the JBR's built-in mics might actually be another possibility. I
have noticed with a loud enough signal, the hard disk noise becomes
inaudible.
