Subject: Problem loading Rockbox into Recorder 20 V2

Problem loading Rockbox into Recorder 20 V2

Hi all. New to the list. I just bought a Model JBR V2
- 20 gig. While waiting for delivery I studied the
Rockbox web site carefully and was excited about
installing the software.

Well, the Archos came yesterday. However, to keep
things simple I wanted to go with the most stable
available version, so I downloaded
rockbox-2.0.-recorder.zip. I unzipped and installed it
with no problem (onto the root), but the Recorder
would not load it on bootup. No error messages or
anything, but it kept loading the Archos firmware only
(v1.40a).

Is there a known issue of compatibility with V2 and
the older version 2.0 of rockbox? The V2 looks a
little different than the Recorder 20 I saw on the
Archos website. For example the buttons seem smaller
and the rubber bumpers are secured with torx screws.

So, then I went onto the daily builds page and
observed that there is a recorder and a recorderv2
version of each daily build. So, for kicks I
downloaded the V2 version and installed it. This was
partially successful in that the Archos loaded the
Rockbox software, but after bootup it froze on me with
the USB connector icon showing in the display. I
properly disconnected the USB from my WinXP machine
after installing the V2 build, so I don't know why I'm
getting this, but the unit is frozen and none of the
keys has any effect. To get out of this I had to
reconnect the USB cable and delete the .ajz file from
the root directory, after which the normal Archos
firmware loaded on reboot.

So, I guess I've got a couple of questions. One, am I
correct that version 2.0 of rockbox is not compatible
with the Archos Recorder 20 V2? If that is the case,
what would you recommend as the most stable release of
Rockbox that is compatible with V2 - as I said, I
think I've got a problem with the 11/25/03 release
because of the USB connection hang up.

Sorry if this repeats an issue, but I've been through
the archives and FAQ and can't find anything
addressing this.

Andy
