Subject: Serial connection and Rockbox?

Serial connection and Rockbox?

From: Joseph Jones <joe_at_bumpycarrot.cjb.net>

I'm gonna go out on a bit of a limb here...

While I currently can achieve *nothing* in C, I plan to learn it this
coming summer.

I also plan to have, by then, a Sharp Zaurus SL-C860. There's a serial
CompactFlash adaptor available for it, although it is rather pricy.

Basically, my questions are:

1. Does the JBR require any internal modification to have a serial port?
Am I correct in saying that there is a serial line on a 4th pin on the
Line-In?

2. How fast is the serial connection? Can it be used to go both ways? Is
it fully compliant with standards?

I ask basically because, it would be pretty sweet if I could put
together some serial communication code, either in a plug-in (is that
possible?) or somewhere else, to be able to use my JBR as a portable HDD
for my Zaurus. Obviously there would more than likely need to be some
code on the side of the other machine to accomodate for the JBR, and I'm
ay ahead of myself here, but I was just wondering whether it is possible.

Many thanks

Joe
