I don't think it will make much difference in the memory use, but it
would allow automated generation of all the necessary voice clips, and
make regeneration much easier when things inevitably change. I'd gotten
a vbscript running that traversed the music file structure and spoke the
folder names using MS Agent characters (uses the L&H TTS engine); it
also generated the corresponding talkbox-format mp3 filenames for each
clip. I never found a good program to automate the capture and storage
of the spoken texts as mp3's, however (or WAV's that could then be fed
to an encoder) - something with a CLI interface so I could call it from
the script and pass it the relevant parameters. I DL'ed a few candidates
that I haven't had time to test yet, so perhaps I'll still find
something. I'd be happy to pass it on to anyone who wanted to develop it
further. I'd also be glad to do some more work on it if someone knows of
a suitable free (as in beer, but not necessarily open source) CLI-driven
audio capture program. It would be trivial to have the script read the
rockbox language files, as well.

If anyone wants a script that reads your local weather conditions, as
scraped from the weather.com website, that one is already good to go.
You might not appreciate the animated Agent characters all that much,
though. =)

I was also working on a script to scrape traffic data from a state
gov't. website for display on my desktop. I sincerely hope that nobody
needs an audio-only version of that script. =P
