I really don't think that there is a printer made that can keep up with the
speed of the data sent through a parallel cable.

I don't think he asked for a critique of his printer hookup. And the word
is
"waste".

Why would you possibly mess with a clunky old parallel port when the USB
interface works so much better. faster (yes, printers DO need that speed),
smaller cable, end of cable clutter. I have one USB cable exiting this
laptop. It runs over to the peripheral table next to me where there is a
power hub, two printers, a scanner, the Jukebox cable, a usb/serial
interface
to drive my large format engineering plotter, a flash card reader and my
Palm
cradle. Only a foolish person would try a configuration like that without
USB.

To the original question, that icon is on your tray because of your Jukebox.
It flushes the cache buffer so data won't be lost at disconnect. If you
have
your device setting configured not to cache the Jukebox drive, the icon is
not
needed but I've yet to figure out how to remove it. If you're on XP and
allow
it to hide unused icons it'll be hidden fast enough.
