I like all the 'mad' plugins, it's fun and interesting to see what people come up with
I even like the Talkbox functionalty - not just usefull for blind people, also good for
I do, however, agree that we should find a new 'home' for Rockbox as I'm sure my Archie
Keep it up with the calculator plugin - it's fun and it may even prove to be usefull someday!

lately, hoping the talkbox thing will just go away...
What is the purpose of this hack and what use would it be? I can't see how
this would have any use without a touch screen or keyboard. Even with a
whippy-kewl input scheme, why? Maybe I'm just a nerd but I carry a PDA and a
cellphone, both of which have calculators built in. I have an HP-48 and an
HP-97 on my desk plus HP emulators on my laptop. Somehow it just doesn't seem
at all intuitive to grab for my jukebox to compute a cosine.
I wonder if I'm the only one sitting over here on the sidelines with growing
alarm at what RockBox is turning into. Since the first of the year it seems
like RockBox has moved from being the best AUDIO player available to a growing
blivit of clever but of questionable utility hacks. I admire the hacks for
the achievements but I just can't see the utility of playing black and white
movies on a postage stamp screen or trying to use a keyless calculator or....
I suppose that if I were blind I'd be excited about talkbox but I'm not and
I'm not. I sure wish it was a plugin so it could be easily removed by people
who don't want it. (maybe it is - I haven't had time to follow the massive
traffic on the subject.)
I was really hoping all these resources would have been spent finding a
suitable new platform for RockBox so that we could break the Archos ties that
bind. My offer to buy new hardware for a developer or two still stands, if the
core team can pick some out.
