Thanks for the info, and the unit I bought does play MP3 files using the
original Archos firmware.
So I imagine that it will be coming soon.

avOS is an external project, but yes, it is intended for the MM/AV units.

As far as I know, avOS is still lacking things like a GUI for playing
MP3s, never mind implementing speech support. I think your best bet
would be waiting for Rockbox to be ported, if/when that happens.
