I have three methods of recording things with my jukebox:
1) For band rehearsals it's the best to feed some signal from the mixing
console to the line in of the jukebox. But this assumes that you feed all
your signals into the mixer, which isn't the case in most rehearsal
situations. But that's the way I do it most of the time.
2) The archos mic is good (for its price), but very sensitive. I like it for
voice recording, but it's useless for band rehearsals for me, because
everything gets distorted.
3) For loud situations without the possiblity of getting a line signal from
the mixer, I use the Giant Squid Audio Lab - Stereo Mics (powered,
There's NO preamp in the box, it's only the power supply for the mics, but
as these mics are powered by a 9V battery (as opposed to most 1,5V powered
mics for MD recorders), they produce enough level for the jukebox and they
sound great. Ideal for band rehearsals, live gigs, bootlegs etc.
Another possiblity I haven't tried: use the archos preamp with other mics
which are less sensitve.
Perhaps this also helps:
