Sandisk also made IDE drives that were just flash memory but the host PC can't tell the difference (I have a 128MB one that is the same shape as a 9.5mm laptop drive. I bet it would work. You would then have a very heavy flash MP3 player with very little storage.... but no skips :-) BTW: Make sure you use a flash card that follows the spec well. Sandisk does a good job of emulating a IDE drive (a true ATA device) in their CF cards. I worked on an embedded Linux project once and the Sandisk cards performed better as IDE drives than other cheapo brands. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nick Brodich" <nick_at_moirbrodich.com> To: "Rockbox development" <rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se> Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 4:18 PM Subject: Replacing Hard Drive with CF Card > Greetings Learned Colleagues: > > Has anyone on the list opened up their Studio 10? Because of skipping problems discussed ad nauseaum earlier, I am planning on bagging the hard drive world and going to solid state. But I would like to keep my Archos, and I definitely want to keep my Rockbox! So I'm wondering about the possibility of taking out my hard drive and inserting a 1 GB CF card in its place. > > I'm just crazy enough to try it, so if you anyone thinks its a REALLY BAD IDEA, now is the time to speak. I trust you implicitly.
