Hi all,

You are absolutely right, talking about the electricity belonging to the
ignition circuits.

But IMHO that power spikes you are mentioning are not existing in the cars
12V net that comes inside the passenger compartment.
As I'm informed, that voltage is filtered to get rid of such kind of
damaging peaks.

Well, car voltage is not the best filtered one, but e.g. I know, that radios
or other electronic control units (like motor ECU or ABS/ESP ECU's) are
definetly NOT filtering a lot (I'm talking about German cars only, maybe
could be different in the US or somewhere else).

I was using cigarette lighter adapters (that simple 12 adapters as well as
regulated ones) for quite a long time for different purposes (PC's, laptops,
music stuff...) and all of them were never damaging anything (only if I
connected them wrongly sometimes).

The only thing I observed together with my AJB and a regulated car adapter
is, that because of the bad ground connection to the cigarette lighter in my
car, I got a lot of ignition dependant disturbance.
I even once measured that with a high speed oscilloscope and a spectrum
analyzer when I was trying to find out the exact source of that.

Only thing that has to be taken care of is, that most car voltages can be
between 10V (bad generator, regulator, battery) and up to 14-15V.

Greetings

Matthias
