Subject: RE: Prob with Archos fm

I want to chime in, only because I've been subscribed to *many, many*
maillists in my time and one exceptional thing about this list has been how
patient & helpful the technically knowledgeable users have been to the rest
of us. I've seen immediate, cheerful responses from heavy-hitters in
response to elementary questions. That's really exceptional, and is way
above and beyond the call of duty. It really makes the few bits of
bickering I've seen in my short month or two as a subscriber that much more
of a shame. They seem to mostly be over really petty stuff, too.

really know. I do know that schoolchildren and old ladies say it all the
time.

Wow, convergent linguistic evolution... No wonder we're confused!

Let me second the earlier posted definition: in America, 'blow me' most
definitely is a direct reference to the speaker's anatomy, and is a crude,
rude, antagonistic thing to say, particularly to someone you don't know
well... fightin' words for sure, more "eat my shorts!" than "shiver me
timbers!" You would NOT walk up to someone larger than you in a bar and say
it. It seems to me that the original poster was using it in that sense. It
sounded to me like an insulting, dismissive "suck my %$%$^&$", not "well,
blow me down!" Although I could be wrong.

Maybe one of the list owners should give him one chance, write him off-list
about his manners, and explain some points of online decorum. Then, if he
behaves uncivilly after that, it's fair suggest a ban.

Just my $.02,
Mike
