Aman,
I think the menus must have changed since you wrote the below arrowing.
I believe the difference is 1 up arrow after:
menu )F1)
2 down
1 right

Hi, Rick.
I sent out these instructions a few months ago, and Glenn Ervin
edited them back then. They work to reset the settings on the recorder
units, and they should work on the players too, though I haven't tried them
on the player unit.

menu,
2 down,
1 right,
4 up,
1 right,
1 up,
1 right,
2 up,
play twice. Then left arrow out of there if you still don't have usable
voice.
Make sure to wait a second when you hit menu.

Aman

One more question...

Is there currently a way to force RockBox to boot with default settings? I
was thinking it is going to be difficult for someone that can't see the
display to get to the appropriate menu option to reset the configuration to
default. Maybe a hot key held down at boot time or something?

Best regards,

The voice file may not fit, if the files and directory buffers are set to
oversizedly large. Try resetting the settings. And check Info -> Rockbox
Info. The buffer size given there must be larger than the voice file.
