Hello Matthias,

forget overblown PSpice (there must be some user error), do the circuit with
the diode and the resistor, close the thread. It will work, regardless of
internal pullup or not, trust me. (I'm an electrical engineer by
profession.)

It will probably work with a regular diode as well (~0.6V forward voltage),
but a Schottky will give the better low (~0.3V). A "low" must be below 0.8
V, any lower improves noise margin.
