On the V2, the charging is done by the hardware, and the software can't
control it. The software can, however, monitor the charging and find out
when the hardware has stopped charging, and is only maintaining the
charge. This is not done in the 2.2 version of Rockbox, so the battery
icon will animate as long as the charger is attached.

The daily builds, however, detect the end-of-charge condition and stops
animating the battery icon.

So you don't have to worry about overcharging, since the hardware takes
care of it.
