Please note that the current draw of the hard disk during USB transfers
can very well be larger than the current supplied by the charger. Then
it won't matter if you charge or not. That of course depends on the hard
disk model, which charger you're using, and at which voltage.

BTW, you should never set the "deep discharge" option when you do large
USB transfers.
