RE: zagor: apps misc.c,1.19,1.20

Holding OFF on the V1 recorder does not spin up the disc but it doesn't care
if the disc is spinning, for example, to fill the buffer, it will kill the
power.

I think the thought now is to make sure everything is being saved while the
disc is spinning to fill the buffer so that the disc needs to spin up during
shutdown. In the end, though, we would rather spin the disc one more time
during shutdown than lose information.

When we make changes via the config menu, the changes are saved the next
time the disc spins to fill the buffer? What if we want to shut the unit
off before the buffer needs to be filled again? To save changes, the disc
HAS to be spinning sooner or later. I don't need resume data saved to the
second anyway if config changes are already saved. I rarely use bookmarks

Tim

Hello,

Forgive me for wading in on this topic as I am well known as not being an
expert. I have a V1 which shuts down without the spin up when holding down
the off key. I don't know if that's intelligent shut down but I like it. I

also really like the menu option for shut down.

I also have a very wonky FMR that spins up know matter if I double click or
press and hold the off button to shut down. It appears to stop the disk
prior to spin down which causes that ugly slapping noise with my Hitachi
drive. This distresses me as my unit is a piece of _at_$%#! lol!
I have noticed that the shut down option is not available from the menus on
the FMR? I think I have the latest voice UI so I am assuming it has been
removed from the FMR/V2?
Personally, I would like the disk not to spin up during the shut down
process. Or at least, give me a way to shut it down after the spin down is
done.

Just a comment from one of those idiot users...lol!

Cheers...rocker

Which risk?

I explained to you that the risk isn't there.

Again:

V2/FM/Ondio users hold the OFF button, which activates the clean
shutdown. Even if the user continues to hold the OFF key there are still
several seconds to save the data before the hardware shuts off. No risk
of hard drive damage there.

V1 users have two options:

   1) Hold the OFF key - this turns off without activating the clean
      shutdown process. Just like before.

   2) Press OFF twice (three, actually, as you stop the music with the
OFF key first) - this activates the clean shutdown, and I can't see
how this is done by mistake.

Player users have only the "Shutdown" menu option.

Now where is the danger?

Read the above.
