Some remarks:
(1) S/PDIF does work with MPEG1 sample rates *only*, i.e.
48 kHz, 44.1 kHz and 32 kHz. There are no other restrictions
(on bitrate or such).
(2) Did you try again with a recent daily build or release 2.3?
There was a bug (S/PDIF output was inadvertently set to high
impedance), which was fixed recently.
