You said
Some one suggested connecting the Archos to a Pack Mate and reading the
files through the PM, why don't you just save them to the PM instead.
Because the PM can take, at most, 8 gigabytes of extra memory at an
extra cost, over and above the PM's price, of $600 or so. The Archos can
hold 20 gigabytes of information at least, and the cost is $200. There's no
comparison of cost to storage space between using files on the PM and using
files on the Archos through the PM.

Folks with the Linux-based Zaurus PDAs have been able to do this. In
particular, the 3000 and 6000 models have USB host and support USB MSD.
