If this device has a serial port, we could use it with SpeakUp, if SpeakUp
would work with it, as nearly all external synthetic speech synthesizers
work on a serial port, only a couple have gone USB as most people are
satisfied with software speech. It is the serious techies that want access
when the software speech quits that demand an external synth.

You would not need the different ROM -- speakup runs only on a text
console -- if you can get to a text console on your Z machine and if
you can compile things for it -- and kernels in particular and if the
