Hi Glen,

I've not reinstalled or added any new builds since I first put rockbox on
the machine in January.

Hi,

Wonder can anyone help.

For the past couple of days my Arcos recorder no longer speaks the file
names only the directory names. i.e I can scroll through my albbums/books
but when I right arrow to open the tree nothing happens. Also when I go to
recent bookmarks I enter on the desired bookmark only to be taken to the
root directory on the drive.

If I enter on a directory I'm invited to create a playlist and with a bit of
messing about I can get the relevant directory to play. Also the resume from
start up still works which is a god send.

Hope someone can help.

The runtime database as it is at the moment can not hash on target and

You may have installed a newer build, or just re-installed.
When this happens, the settings go to the defaults, for which you need to go
into the menus, and in general, voice, you can make it speak MP3 clips.

Ah Right, if we want them to get runtime data they need to be in the tag
database even without tags.

The java version isn't even in CVS, is it?

And we are used to fix bugs we find, I don't think this is any different
that
other code we have/use.

Hash what, how and why ?

hi irvier-hackers
i just wanted to say how much i appreciate the irvier port from you.
today i downloaded the daily-build and patched the firmware (wau - that was
easy!)
here my top three "things to do" (i won't do it - feel free to do it
*smile*)
- remote lcd + controlls (part of it works but not yet where it could be)
- fast forward with playback where you are (one thing that iriver does
better - sorry guys)
- wma playback (i'm too lazy to convert those file i got from "somewhere")
i noticed that the gapless playback isn't as good as on the archos (with
rockbox) - looks like it loses a few millisec of the next song (or skips to
early) - or mathematiclly spoken: the gap is minus x millisec ;-) (maybe
it's because i'm fastforwarding... who knows? - probably you do *smile*)
what about the plugins? i always get "I04:I11Instr at 32F4057A" (good that
the reset button works)
after using rockbox on iriver for a while (browsing through songs - also
playing 22kHz songs which sound funny *smile*) i already had it twice that
rockbox started to skip songs and didn't play any song anymore. a restart
did solve that issue.
i hope the money i sent almost a year ago helped and i'm looking forward
seeing new excellent features...

I'm working on the first one... buttons done last week... next week I'll
take a look at WPS info on the remote.
And WMA playback... I don't know how that's done with licensing?

Yes, that's because you're playing audio... The audio code uses parts of
the plugin system now. Linus is working on that.

Please try to re-create the crash.. if you have a fixed point where it
always crashes, email the list, or come to IRC and give a bug report.
The more details the better.

I'm sure this will become one of the most frequent FAQs - mainly because
existing iRiver users may well have collections of WMA files already on
their devices.
Obviously, Rockbox by its nature won't deal with any encrypted files (I
don't know if the iRiver firmware does?).
In theory, Rockbox could include support for unencrypted WMA files, but
the only open source WMA decoder uses floating-point maths. The
Coldfire processor on the iRiver doesn't have a floating-point unit, so
all floating point maths is "emulated" in software. Which means
decoding will be _really_ slow - i.e. not real-time.
The solution will be to rewrite the open source WMA decoder to use
integer or fixed-point maths, but no-one has (yet) shown any interest in
doing that.
If anyone is interested, the WMA decoder in question is part of the
"ffmpeg" library.
I may at some point try and integrate that decoder into Rockbox, as
motivation for someone to rewrite it, but obviously I want to work on
getting the existing codecs working properly first.
Dave.

I haven't done any codec development for rockbox before, but I've done
other things, and read a lot of playback code... so with some help I
think I can take a look at it.

That might be a good idea... as it would save me from learning rockbox
codecs to much :)

The H3x0 series can, with a firmware upgrade. the H1x0 series cannot. I
don't know if this is a deficiency of the hardware (the lack of usb2go
would be about the only difference that could have an effect like this,
afaik), or if it's just something iriver want to be able to push newer
units with.
Pity protected WMA9 specs don't appear to be included in the stuff the
EU commission are trying to get opened up. Of course, MS are fighting
tooth and nail to prevent open-source from being able to use ANY specs
they release.

After all, one could just reencode the files as FLAC, and at least, not
suffer any MORE loss :). There are some ways (unfortunately, potentially
lossy unless you're using digital the entire way) to do this with even
protected wma's. and sometimes you get the chance to burn it to cd, at
which point, the game is practically over.

Isn't that the main difference between the US & EU versions of the firmware
- supprt for DRM in WMA With it's PlaysForSure logo?... On the other hand I

Hm... they have doom running on ipod linux... so we might be able to do
it too :)
Here's a link to the doom version ported to nano-X for ipod:

Maybe some people can take a look at it, and decide if it's possible to
get it working?
I don't know how to do these things, but if someone sets up some guide
lines, and a start... I might be able to help.

Hi everyone,
I still experience the very annoying bug of having to boot the iRiver fw
before I can get any playback on Rockbox. If i just boot straight into
Rockbox I can browse files but can't play them. I don't even get any
WPS, just a blank screen. Every time I turn on my ihp-120 I have to
first boot the iRiver fw, turn off, and imediately boot Rockbox (btw,
when I do it this way I get a reassuring "thumb" on the headphones when
Rockbox boots, otherwise just silence).
I suspect there is some audio initialization that is not being done
correctly but that this is only aparent in some batch of players.
Linus has replied that I can't reproduce this on his H140, but what
about other people? I wanted to figure out if there is a pattern here,
i.e. is it only ihp-120s or is it player bought in specific batch?
Mine is a iHP-120, bought about 1.5 years ago in the UK, barcode
503340040300220. I'm using fw 1.65US patched with booloader 2.
My idea to collect data from people who experience this problem to try
to identify what causes it and possibly correct it.
Thanks,
Pedro

hi,
I've just got a recorder 20 after having worked with a jukebox player. I'd
like to know if I could use my old charger with my new jbr 20 without any
problems?
the two chargers seem to be the same but I don't want to use it without
