Subject: Re: Information

Re: Information

The future of Rock Box? If you want to use Rock Box *now* then you will
need one of the models supported by Rockbox. In the imminent future,
RockBox will also be able to run on iRiver H300-series devices which are
still available at many stores. There is no official timescale yet for
H300-series support in RockBox but it is in the pipeline.

Other than that-- the bottom line is, if you buy a different MP3 player
that isn't supported by RockBox, then RockBox will not work on it now, and
there is certainly no guarantee that it will work on it in the future
either.

Due to the nature of RockBox it is impossible to keep up-to-date with the
new ranges of 'current' models being released by manufacturers each month.
RockBox is developed by a number of keen individuals in their free time,
without any endorsement or technical information from the manufacturers of
the original MP3 players on which it runs. It takes a considerable amount
of time to understand how a given MP3 player can be reprogrammed, and the
unfortunate truth is that, by the time RockBox is able to run successfully
on a new model, that model is no longer 'current' and in fact has typically
already been obsoleted by its manufacturer.
