One problem is that faster playback means faster decoding. The CPU has
to decode the audio at a rate faster than realtime. You can only
increase the playback rate so much until the CPU gets too much work.

Secondly, preserving the pitch is quite CPU intensive as well. It's on
my list of things I want to do though.
