Hi,

If you're a pupil and need to pick up the teacher/speaker, a kidney or
even super-kidney microphone you can direct on him would certainly be
the best. The problem is that these are usually not cheap.

The name "kidney" comes from the angle view from where the microphone
is picking up the best sounds.
"Normal" microphones are ball type microphones which are picking up
the noise from all sizes in the same volume.
