You should be able to record with the external mic by selecting Line In
as the source, and by adjusting the gain in the recording menu.

This is a bug in the Windows file system driver, which doesn't update
the FSINFO structure on the disk. If you want to update it, go to
Info->Debug->View disk info, press Down until you see "Free" and a
number. Then press Navi to update the free info.

This happens every time you start the original firmware, which has a bug
in the real time clock driver.
