Well, I don't know if you really need a week, especially if you are planning on sending it back, but I have mis-charged batteries in other products, similar in nature, and strangely, leaving them on the charger seemed to eventually put the correct voltage into the battery.

or do you have a broken iriver with an intact battery? i would pay for it...!
i'll need to charge it a bit more - but it looks much better than before - now at least the device starts up and the hd spins and stops, spins and stop (probably not enough voltage?)
my girlfriend used a wrong charger and now the battery of her player is at 0 volts...
